Top Hat Table Place Settings

This month I've been playing with the fab Smiling Jack-O-Lantern SVG file from Simply Crafty SVGs. I know, I'm too late for halloween, but I love the little hat cut file that's included with this file, and its too good not to make use of in some other way. I've found that its so versatile for lots of occasions and uses. I’m sharing the few variations that I’ve made here, but this top hat can be made in other colours and with other decorations, and be used throughout the year.

I think that this little hat is the perfect size for place settings. My first set will be used on my Christmas table. It's so easy to add a little label with guest's names.

I made a hat band by taking the hat base, and proportionately increasing its size a tiny bit. I just added a few other cut file elements and a few tiny die cuts, and ensured that all the decorations were attached to the hat band, and not to the hat. That makes it an easy job to change out the band and decorations to use the place settings again for a completely different occasion.

By adding these elements to cocktail sticks the decorations can be used with the hat, or for other purposes too. These cocktail sticks were coloured using a metallic 'Sharpie' marker.

Now here is a version in lighter colour that looks completely different. With appropriate decorations wouldn't these look elegant on a wedding table?

Canvas Feathers Table Setting

Hiya, over on the Silhouette UK Blog today I have this pretty table setting for a special occasion made using the Silhouette Printable Cotton Canvas. Previously I've used Silhouette Printable Cotton, so I took the opportunity to compare the two and share the differences between the two products, hopefully helping you choose the perfect one for your project.

I used the Printable canvas to give a more rustic look to this project to complement the natural linen table cloth and napkins.

The post also contains instructions on how to make the canvas feathers. Essentially, the feathers were cut in pairs and assembled back to back. The adhesive backing made this a quick and easy process - no mess either.

Fall Crow Card and Place Cards

I love making shaped greetings cards and, using the Silhouette Studio software, it is easy to make other shaped papercraft items too. In this post I'll show you how I made shaped place cards for my Thanksgiving table.

The Thanksgiving card and place cards were made using the new SVG release from Sanqunetti Design - Fall Crow SVG.


Supplies Used

Silhouette Cameo® 3 and Colour Printer
Silhouette Studio® Designer Edition (or higher)
White printable medium-weight Cardstock
Googly Eyes
Beacon 3-in-1 Adhesive


Instructions

To make the place cards, I made an offset from a small version of the crow and cut the offset horizontally across the centre using the software's Knife tool (using the Outline setting, rather than the Solid default).  The upper half of the crow offset was then positioned level with the centre line of a place card-sized rectangle.

Fold lines were added at the centre line either side of the offset.

A complete crow image was then centred within the outline and a patterned background added behind (minus the crow's eye).

Next a rounded rectangle with a coloured outline was added with family names centred inside.

The whole design was then placed within a Print & Cut window, together with a copy and some (optional) separate elements.

It was then a simple matter of printing the design as shown on a home printer, and sending the printed card through the Silhouette Cameo to cut out.

To finish, each cutout place card was folded and the the google eyes added. Optional elements were added too.

Of course, I couldn't resist making a matching paper-pieced greeting card too. Isn't he cute!

SIL JULY :: Clapperboard Table Decoration and Photo Prop

Hello,
I'm using Chalkboard vinyl over on the Silhouette UK Blog today on a 3d clapperboard box design by Studio Illustrado from the Silhouette Design Store (#121403). I made this one for an important upcoming wedding, but it could be used for a birthday or anniversary, or as the centre-piece for a BAFTA or OSCAR party. In fact, perfect to use at any event which is a 'production'!

I redesigned the grid to better suit my purpose.  The blog post shows you how you can customise the clapperboard to fit your event. I also show my special trick for getting the vinyl on straight and adhering the chalkboard vinyl smoothly and perfectly.

Here is the completed box demonstrating the hinge in action.
