Design your own Vinyl Decal to make a Wooden House Sign
Hiya, I love using my Silhouette to make unique gifts and this week I've designed my own vinyl decal to decorate a plain wooden house blank as a gift for my daughter. All it took was a couple of fonts and a bird file from the Silhouette Design Store (and a wee bit of manipulation in the Silhouette Design software). I have a tutorial to show you how to design your own decals on the Silhouette UK Blog today.
The digital files used are:
A Little Birdie Told Me by Hero Arts (#56886)
Willow Bloom Font by Skyla Design (#235171)
LW Sketchy Font by Lori Whitlock (#76191)
A few folks have asked me where I sourced the wooden house blank from. Well, we found it in the clearance section of our local Tesco supermarket and it cost pence rather than pounds! It was already decorated, but that was soon covered over with a couple of coats of grey chalk paint.
Surprisingly, the supermarket can be a great source for craft blanks! This coffee sign was one I re-purposed some months ago by recovering the front face with black paper. If you like the look of using white gel pens with your Silhouette there are heap of useful tips on that post too!
Have you found an unusual source for crafting materials - do share!

Awesome projects Janet
This is a beautiful "Home" sign, I love the coffee sign too and off to see what you say about gel pens, I missed that one!
A Tile warehouse was my buy, I asked how much the tile was, he told me the reduced price was £15.99 a square yard, I said I only want one, I got it for 50 pence. It's now displayed on my front door!

Thanks, she did, it’s hanging in her hall!
That’s a great find Faith. You’ve reminded me that I have a box of cream tiles in the garage left there by the previous owner (we’ve lived here over 10 years, lol)!
Stunning projects Janet. I love the little house, lovely gift. Cathy x
These look fabulous Janet. I love the decals you have made. The bird house is a lovely find. I like to look in charity shops and at boot sales to find little bits and pieces to alter and decorate. My favourite find was a little santa with a missing arm, I made him a little hessian sack to hold and you would never know the difference. Creative Blessings, Tracy x
Thank you Tracy. I love rootling in charity shops for bits to upcycle as well. Sometimes I find craft supplies too - last year I picked up a small Xyron sticker machine for almost nothing!
